1st MARCH, 2013
Dear Visitor,
As you might have noticed my site has became
silent since mid-2011. It has multiple reasons. First, I started
this site as a student and I had a lot of time to create pictures.
Now my work
and other interests limit my free time.
Second: I must admit my commitment to Star Wars
has decreased in the past four years. Star Wars was my main
focus in terms of collage making since 1998 but things have changed and now I am more
interested in other topics. (On the other hand, I participated in and
organized several Star Wars-themed college courses in Hungary and I
really enjoyed them.) I still like the Star Wars franchise but far
not as hard as before. I find J.J.
Abrams’ project interesting and I am looking forward to see Episodes
VII-IX.
The third reason is that my site is a set of 8-year-old
static HTML pages with a now-quasi-retro appearance and an awful lot
of work when I want to create an update. I have to edit every page
by hand, reorganize items if required etc. and I am really tired of
it.
In order to ensure the site's prosperity and
continuing stability, this site will be reorganized into a new SimonZ portal. With more content in a much simpler,
modern, user-friendly
and visitor-friendly way. I cannot do this alone therefore I
decided to recruit a professional to build the new site. I do not want to
ask a favor from anybody; I plan to pay for it to ensure
accountability. A host change is also possible.
After all I wrote here, one might ask why do I
need a new site. What will be the update there?
I plan the new site to be a more personal home
page. It will have three different parts.
1. One will focus on my professional career as a
biologist with scientific papers and news. Sorry guys but I feel
this part is also me and my personal home page should deal with
it as well. I create my own scientific figures and this is another
link to my existing works. :)
2. The second part will be something like a
general blog with regular updates (and comment option, of course):
- behind-the-scenes-like entries about picture
making;
- deep analyses: my thoughts about some pictures;
- pictures from my archives (never-seen-before old wallpapers - I
have a lot) and unfinished projects
- since I learnt a lot about Star Wars in the
past fifteen years I plan to share short stories and facts about
making the movies, creating the scripts etc.;
- as a fan of John Williams' work I also plan to start
a serial about the
recurring musical themes throughout the six films;
- and another one about the visual symbolism of
the saga. The movies are full of beautiful stills with meaningful
colors, shadows, character and camera positions etc.
3. The third part will be very similar to the
actual site. This will be the place of the pictures, old and new as
well. As for now, this site has 94 Star Wars and 2 other posters and about
360 different wallpapers (not to mention the cover designs). I do
not want to lie to you: it is unlikely that I will create many new Star
Wars pictures in the next one or two years. I have plans about a few
classic trilogy pictures in my mind but the level of efforts I will put into Star Wars
depends greatly on the new Lucasfilm-Disney projects.
But I will do other
topics. As a start, you will have:
- Doctor Who
-
Once Upon
a Time
-
Game of Thrones
-
Avatar
.- maybe a new Harry Potter piece;
practically, pictures
about anything that inspires me.
- Moreover, I will show you my
commercial designs - I have dozens of chocolate labels, for example.
I hope I can do everything I plan. Updates
(including picture updates) will be definitely more frequent;
however I do not dare to promise a poster for every week. Anyway, here are
three examples about what you can expect: a poster about Series 5 of
BBC's Doctor Who and a character poster about Rumpelstiltskin
from Once Upon a Time (ABC). And I almost forgot the Episode
II piece of my latest poster series. Its larger version will be the
first update on the new site.
In the past years I put a lot of effort (time and
money) to the works I presented on this site. Now I would like to ask some
help for the next phase thus I kindly ask you to use the PayPal
button to donate if:
- you wish to acknowledge the past nine years and
the hundreds of unique Star Wars pictures or
- you want to support the construction of the new
site.
The button can also be found on the left side of
my main pages. You can use your PayPal account or normal bank
transfer from your bank account. I will be very thankful for any amount of donation
you make. If you have a PayPal account the entire donation
will be transferred to my account. If you do not, the amount will be
decreased with a transfer fee. You can learn more about PayPal on
their
official site.
If you
have a question or comment you can send me a mail to mail (at )
simonz (dot) co (dot) hu. I will let you know about the news
regularly.
Thank you for reading this long letter. And,
regardless of making a donation or not, I
also thank you very much for your continuous interest over the years.
All the best,
Zoltán Simon, PhD
