May the Fourth be with everyone! To celebrate this day, I go back to the beginning of the Star Wars saga with a new poster entitled Choices.
This picture is about the choices Anakin, the Chosen One, the son of the suns has to make during his life: choose between the Jedi and Sith, good and bad, light and dark. The choices are depicted by the mentors/father-like characters in Anakin’s life: Qui-Gon Jinn from The Phantom Menace and Palpatine from Revenge Of The Sith. Their meeting planets are also included: the light, plain deserts of Tatooine, far-far away from everything; and the millions of lights in the darkness of Coruscant, the poisoned heart of the Republic. Naboo N-1 fighters from Episode I and Jedi Fighters from Episode III also enhance the timespan and depth of the picture.
Finally, a few words about Jake Lloyd, who played young Anakin in The Phantom Menace and who suffers from schizophrenia, a very serious illness that affects circa 1% of the population. I believe everyone of us in the Star Wars community wishes the best to him.
Today’s update is a bizarre piece about the Galactic Empire. Nevertheless, I hope you will like it – for me, it tells a lot about the deep feelings and motivations that keep the Empire together.
The title of the picture is Imperium Forte, latin for Mighty Empire.
Remember the words of an Imperial officer, Grand Moff Tarkin from A New Hope:
Fear will keep the local systems in line!
… and the words of a wise Jedi Master in The Phantom Menace:
Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.
I hope you all watched The Force Awakens, several times. I enjoyed it a lot; it has a real Star wars atmosphere; however it has its flaws, naturally. Anyway, I think it is a solid base for the future installments of the Star Wars saga. I am sure I will make a lot of pictures about The Force Awakens but today’s update is something else.
I wish you a happy new year with the latest piece of my Star Wars episode poster series: The Empire Strikes Back.
If you remember, I started the new page with another piece from this series, Attack of the Clones. Oddly, this one has the film title in it; I will harmonize it with the other posters later.
I made this poster some time ago and it took a lot of time to finish because I encountered many difficulties. Episode V has so many, often opposing themes: Vader vs. Yoda, dark side vs. light side, Luke vs. Han & Leia, love, betrayal, learning, losses, the white planes of Hoth, the swamps of Dagobah, the clearness of Cloud City, the dark tones of the lightsaber duel etc. It is not easy to select some of these themes and decide what to skip in order to keep the main themes of the episode while avoiding a too crowded picture. My new Star Wars poster is entitled Vader‘s Night. It belongs to the same series like Ben’s Sunset and shows the tormented Vader, haunted by his burning memories and the true nature of the dark side.
Darth Vader raises his aggressively glowing red lightsaber but he cannot fight the ghosts and failures of his past (from bottom left to middle left): his dying mother, the massacre of the tusken camp, the beheading of Count Dooku, the murder of the younglings in the Temple, the slaughtering of the Separatists and, most prominently, the consequent death of his beloved Padme.
Vader is the archetype of the fallen, angry, helplessly suffering hero.
More information on the story of this poster will come soon!
